New Release: Underoath - Ø (Disambiguation) [Deluxe Edition]

Download.

I got it. Yeah, buddy.

While I'm here, have an on time review! (holy shit!!)

The first thing I notice about this album is the intro (what a shock!). Starts off with this cool beat that sort of reminds me of water and then just picks right up with a nice scream. The rest of the track is pretty melodic, definitely piques interest to listen further.

I really enjoyed “Paper Lung.” It was decently heavy but didn’t use screams as much. The guitars honestly remind me a bit of post-metal, like Isis or Jesu. Or parts of it anyway. Despite being heavy, the song manages to be really chill and I just love paradoxical things like that. Song also has a fuckin’ sweet drum outro.

A Divine Eradication was also a strong track. I enjoyed the lyrics I could understand, and it still managed to be strong despite following the In Division (the first track) trend.

I’m not that familiar with Underoath (I need to stop reviewing albums from bands I’m only moderately familiar with) but I’m going to take a stab in the dark and say if you’re a fan of the band/ genre, you’ll like the album. It’s definitely a strong album with lots of good moments. Although the album is strong overall, there doesn’t seem to be all that much variety from one song to the next. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, the songs are good, but I personally do enjoy a decent amount of variety in an album.

There were a lot of songs that had a very similar structure to the first track. I’m sure I’m being just a little overly critical, but that made a few of the later songs boring for me. On the bright side, they did a lot of cool and interesting things with drums, be it nice beats or effects, so that was cool.

I’m fucking tired (as you can tell by my vast use of numerous adjectives) and feeling sorta lazy tonight, so I’m not planning on going as in depth as I usually do. I’m sure all four of you will be sorely disappointed. Overall score: 8.5 out of 10. It’s got a hell of a lot of strong moments and it’s a very good album, but unless you’re a big fan of the band, I imagine you’re going to lose some level of interest in the album after the 8th track or so.

As for the extra tracks on the Deluxe edition, the remixes are pretty cool. Different spin on the songs. I’d say they’re worth hearing.

Anyway, enjoy the album!

COMPLETE LEAK: Underoath - Ø (Disambiguation)

Might as well update you

So I've been thinking a bit lately on what exactly I want to do with this blog. Posting leaks is fun and all, but there are really enough websites that do that and I'd like to be special, for lack of a better word. Not that I wont post leaks from time to time, but I'd like to do more than that. Reviews are also fun, but I'm apparently notoriously terrible at being on time with them. Blasted college and all that.

I think I'm pretty much going to do a grab bag of whatever. I've got a whole bunch of drafts I need to finish...stuff like unsigned bands I know and I think you should too, bands/ albums that are classics to me, so on and so forth. Also the occasional commentary on a genre or person. Like that rant I wrote on Courtney Love a couple years ago that isn't actually on here. I mean...it's a music blog and it's my fuckin' blog. I can do as I please.

The above (saying I dont know what to write, wait yes I do, I'll write whatever I damn well please) pretty much makes this post the most deserving yet of the tag "shit no one cares about" but whatever. Fuck you.

As for my excuse as to why I haven't been updating (it wouldn't be a bullshit post without one), I've been busy. It's my last semester in school and it's kicking my ass a bit. Assuming I don't find a job or anything for next semester, I'll probably have time to post multiple times a week. Which will be good, seeing as stumbleupon is apparently giving me followers now (Hi, new guy!).

Anyway, I've got a leak of the new Underoath CD. Today's the third...that gives me 6 days to put the album and a review up. Assuming I get it on time, I'll do a re-up once I find the special edition.

Now there's actually a perk in no one reading your blog; your links don't get killed!

This was too awesome to not share

How to Tour in a Band or Whatever by Thor Harris

  1. Don’t Complain. Bitching, moaning, whining is tour cancer.
If something is wrong fix it or shut the fuck up you fucking dick. goddamn.
  2. If you fart, claim it.
  3. Don’t Lose shit. Everybody loses shit. Don’t fucking do it. Asshole.
  4. Don’t fuck anyone in the band. There are tons of people to fuck who are not in this band. Dumbass.
  5. If you feel like shit all the time, drink less beer at the gig. You will play better & feel better. What are you… a child? Some have the endurance for self abuse. Most don’t.
  6. Remember the soundman’s name. He will do a better job.
  7. Eat oranges. Cures constipation & prevents colds.
  8. Masturbate. Duh… Where & when? Be creative. You’re an artist right?
  9. If YOU can’t carry your suitcase 3 blocks, it’s too goddamn big.
  10. Respect public space in the van. Don’t clutter, you Fuck.
  11. If you borrow something, return it. Not Fucked Up.
  12. Do not let the promoter dick you or talk you out of the guarantee. If there were not enuf people there, it’s their fault.
  13. Driver picks the music.
  14. One navigator only (usually sitting shotgun). Everyone else shut the fuck up.
  15. Soundcheck is for checking sounds. Shut the fuck up while everyone else is checking.
  16. Don’t wander off. Let someone know where you are.
  17. Clean up after yourself. What are you… a goddamn toddler?
  18. Touring makes everyone bi-polar. Ride the waves as best you can and remember, moods pass. So don’t make any snap decisions or declarations when you are drunk or insane.
  19. Fast food is Poison.
  20. The guestlist is for friends, family & people you might want to fuck.
Everyone else can pay. They have day jobs.
  21. Don’t evaluate your whole life while you’re sitting in a janitor closet waiting to go on. You think you’re above having shitty days at work? Shut up & do your goddamn job.

This list was written under the influence of lots of esspresso & anti-depressants while on tour w/ such greats as Shearwater, Swans, Smog, Lisa Germano, Angels of Light, Bill Callahan & many more. I hope this list will help you get along w/ your co-workers whatever your job is. Contributions to the list by Jordan Geiger, Kimberly Burke, Brian Orloff, Brian Phillips Celebrity Gang Bang, Kevin Schneider, Jonathan Meiburg, Michael Gira and some other folks.

Thanks for not being an asshole, Thor Harris

Thanks, SG!

I've got it FIRST

Holy shit, I actually beat both Magiska and Strike Gently to a leak!

I have the new Luke Abbott. Heard it on Jeph Jacque's Ustream, and it's daaaaamn good. It's a sorta experimental electronic thing and I'm really loving it right now.

Man, I'm plugging everyone today. Ah well, all good sites to plug! Not that any of them care.

So check out the album, and I highly recommend you go out and buy it when it comes out, if you can find it. It's an import. But it's reasonably priced on Amazon.

Anywho, here's the link! Enjoy!

Download

(PS: I really hope this one doesn't get taken down. This took a long while and some decent help to actually find a working one.)

Fucking robots.

So I was just scrolling through my posts when I noticed a couple of comments on some posts. My initial thought was "holy shit, someone actually reads this!"

Lo and behold, it was just some bullshit spam. Which I guess means I'm theoretically getting some traffic, otherwise why would spam bots bother?

Anyway, for the time being I'm going to disable anon comments.

I am aware that this affects absolutely no one and that I'm the only one who cares

Holy crap, an on time review!

Avenged Sevenfold: Nightmare

So I'm going to start off by saying that I am quite pleased with this album.

It starts off pretty heavy almost immediately, in a way that one can really get into. The attitude keeps up for basically the entire album, so it's quite energetic.

One thing that particularly struck me about the album on my first listen was the drums. As you know if you're a fan of the band, The Rev died back in December, and he was a pretty damn good drummer. But the drums here...holy shit, they're incredible. A short Google search will tell you that Mike Portnoy is the current drummer, though, and that...well that pretty much explains it all. I'm sure that this was announced on their website at some point between The Rev's passing and the release of the album, but you know, that would involve paying attention. It's more fun my way.

Everything else is fairly standard, as far as the band goes. I don't listen to them enough to be able to express an opinion as to whether or not I feel this is their best album to date, but it's damn good. The songs flow into one another in a very comfortable fashion while also avoiding sounding redundant.

As always, the guitars sound badass and M. Shadows handles the vocals quite well.

The band ends the album with a ten minute track called "Save Me" which is quite good. It starts off pretty strong, comes down for just a moment, and then builds up a great amount of energy. It is definitely a great end to a great album.

Favorite tracks would be:

Buried Alive - I love the intro to this song. It's absolutely fantastic. Song is also somewhat slow, but it's not a shitty power ballad. I'm glad that shit died with hair metal. Song does pick up a little near the bridge/ solo in a very nice way. Definitely one of the better tracks on the album.

God Hates Us - Come on. With a title like this, how can this song
not be awesome? GREAT intro, guitars remind me a bit of John 5. Shadows uses an atypical scream for this song, who it reminds me of currently escapes me. If I think of who, I'll edit. But damn this song is cool.

Other good songs:

Victim - Another strong song. The verse I'm honestly not that crazy about, but the chorus just brings you right back into the energy. Solo is also pretty good.

Overall, the album's really enjoyable. I can't quite think of anything bad to say about it, so if you're a fan of the band or of metal, I'd say give it a shot. You won't be disappointed.

As I Lay Dying - COMPLETE LEAK

Complete leak of the new As I Lay Dying. Review of this will DEFINITELY be up by Monday. I've got a lot of homework and I'm going to Bamboozle this weekend, but I'm excited to hear this.

Pumped for this!

EDIT: 6-23-10

Long overdue, but I'll give my two cents. The album's...alright. I've listened to it a few times, and it honestly did less and less for me each time. I suppose it'd do justice to the album to say it's typical for the band. Definitely better than their last album, and definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of the genre.

Albums to check out

Figured I might as well share some of what I've been enjoying lately. If you know me at all, you'll know where the links are pulled from.

Man, maybe I'll even become one of those blogs.

Note to anyone who owns this music and for some inexplicable reason is reading my blog: I do not own, nor am I hosting any of these files. They're links I've pulled from other sites, and if you'd like me to remove them, either e-mail me or comment (if you cannot get my e-mail from my profile) and the link will be promptly removed.

Circa Survive - Blue Sky Noise (Deluxe)

Minus the Bear - Omni

The Gaslight Anthem - American Slang (link removed)

Foals - Total Life Forever (link removed)

The Get Up Kids - Simple Science

That's what comes to mind right now, I know there's more, but check these out.

School, wtf

Man, this blog just keeps managing to escape my mind. This semester has been keeping me far too busy. However, there's only one semester after this (yay graduating early), so for about six months after I graduate, I'll have little excuse for sucking at this.

Anyway, I have a lot of work done this week, but I was made aware of the fact that someone other than myself actually reads this. That being said, if you are one of those people, please do follow. If I know I have people who read this, it's incentive to actually update. What I intend to do in the next couple days is write a review of the shows I've been to in the past couple weeks. That includes the Dog Fashion Disco reunion and the 30 Seconds to Mars show. I am attending Bamboozle and Hoodwinked this year, so assuming I have the energy to write after each night, expect posts on that as well.

I have to see which of the albums I've come across lately have yet to come out. If I can listen to them well enough in a timely manner, I'll try to post some of those as well.

Well gosh, look at that! More promises. I'm taking all bets on my capability to deliver.

Ugh

So Frances Bean Cobain is going to make her singing debut. Recent pictures of her show that she's unfortunately taking after her mother.

Shame.

The album she's going to be featured on (no word of a solo career yet) is Amanda Palmer's (Dresden Dolls) latest project, Evelyn Evelyn, with Jason Webley.

Now this track honestly perplexes me. According to the article, this ONE track is going to feature Frances, Gerard Way, Andrew W.K, and Weird Al. It also says the track (but it has to mean the album) will include Tegan and Sara, Franz Nicolay, Margaret Cho, Eugene Mirman, and various members of Mindless Self-Indulgence [Twentyfourbit.com].

So although I'm hesitant of Frances, having heard nothing before, this album sounds...pretty goddamn cool. For those of you who have never checked out the Dresden Dolls or Amanda Palmer's solo work, I suggest you do. It's quite good. And those are some pretty rockin' guest performers.

Whether it's all these artists on one track, or it is indeed the album, I suggest you investigate it on March 30th when the album comes out. You can hear three songs on their Myspace. It's sort of different from what I've heard from Palmer in the past, it's quite...showtuney, if I may steal one of the words they use. It reminds me of music from the 20's, with circus music, with elements of old Disney songs. So yes, pretty cool. Different, but at the same time very much fits with what I would expect.

On a pretty much unrelated note, Courtney Love lost custody of Frances. About goddamn time.

Fall Out Boy is no more

Band's broken up. I could tell you the same redundant bullshit Google would, or I can just link you.

here.

Personally, I don't really care. They've been downhill to me since From Under the Cork Tree. They really changed their sound to me in a way that was just begging for mainstream success. And to their credit, they got it.

Someone should write a song in honor of the band called "Selling Out Is Fun Because You Can Totally Deny It Later (And So Is Having Ridiculously Long Song Titles That Could Just Be Two Words But Then It Wouldn't Be Cool)"

For those of you that don't get the joke, check out the tracklist of From Under the Cork Tree and look at Pete Wentz's Twitter post below.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Right. Because you've NEVER made a fiscally motivated decision. And there is NO WAY anyone could ever accuse your band of selling out.

I also find it funny how the other band members were like "Okay, fine, I quit too." Like it makes a difference and to have that same "cool attitude" Wentz had.

Anyway, that's it. I don't feel like turning this into a rant, so I wont.
